Nestled in the beautiful terrain of Hanover, New Hampshire sits Dartmouth College, a private Ivy League research university. Located just 7 miles from the main campus, the Dartmouth College Equestrian Center at Morton Farm is known to be a stunning facility situated on nearly 200 acres of land. At the facility, there are two barns, an indoor arena, two outdoor arenas, and plenty of trails for riding. There are ample turnout opportunities and even hay fields where the facility can harvest their own hay onsite.
The Dartmouth Equestrian Team is a Division I NCAA Varsity sport. They compete in the NCEA and are equipped with amazing resources which are available to the equestrian student-athletes. Dartmouth Peak Performance (D2P) gives equestrian athletes access to a sports psychologist, sports nutritionist, athletic trainers, and a fully staffed sports medicine personnel. These resources are in addition to the extra academic support opportunities that are available, as well. Head Equestrian Team Coach and Director of Riding, Tenley Walsh, explained that their program is so special because all of their program horses are donated. “We are so fortunate to have amazing donors donating such talented horses” (Walsh, Dartmouth Equestrian). Moving forward, the Dartmouth Equestrian Team is excited to continue building a competitive NCEA team.
Walsh explained that the Dartmouth Equestrian Program has been using StableSecretary for the past three years and they absolutely love it. It was noted that they were informed about StableSecretary in a unique way, as the founder of StableSecretary is a Dartmouth Equestrian Alum. StableSecretary truly assists streamline barn management into their facility. “StableSecretary helps us to keep every horse up to date” (Walsh, Dartmouth Equestrian). In this program, horses are entering the herd at all times throughout the year, from all over the country. Vaccination and coggins due dates are all over the place, therefore having one concise platform to access from any device is truly convenient. Walsh discussed how horse records and specific notes are kept track of, allowing the barn manager and Walsh to see the whole picture. Various aspects of care are tracked, including, vaccinations, adequan injections, farrier records, deworming schedules, fecal egg counts, sheath cleanings, medications, dental records, feeding programs, and more.
When asked about her favorite StableSecretary feature, Walsh raved about the “upcoming reminders” that are sent as email prompts, in addition to past due reminders, which she finds to be extremely helpful. She highlighted the importance of having vaccination records and health certificates accessible at any time, should one be planning to attend a horse show. “We love everything about StableSecretary! It truly does make life easier” (Walsh, Dartmouth Equestrian).
